Priority compilation CDs

These came out before Rhino's '70s and '80s collections did, and were quickly eclipsed by the superior Rhino releases. (Sorry, Priority guys.) The track selection is interesting, but the sound quality is questionable (all the tracks are too loud, and there's quite a bit of digital clipping), there are only a skimpy 12 tracks per disc (or fewer), and there are no liner notes. Still, these '70s disco collections, along with Silver Eagle Records' "Dancin' The Night Away", made me unstoppable in my late 1980s DJ skillz. Note how the early Mega Hits collections feature two dancers on the cover, and the later ones only had one. Now THAT's laziness...

I should also mention the Priority series "The 80's Greatest Rock Hits", which was a low-budget affair by all standards. 9 tracks per disc, no liner notes at all, and levels too high with a lot of clipping. Notable only for the first CD version of Martin Briley's "The Salt In My Tears" (Vol. 6), and even at that it had most of the guitar solo edited out! Released in 1992 (Vols. 1-5), 1993 (Vols. 6-9), and 1994 (Vols. 10-13). I haven't seen anything higher than Vol. 13.

There were additional volumes in the MHDC series released at a later date, but there were only 9 skimpy tracks per disc, and I never got around to buying them. I think they went up to Vol. 13.
